This is the kind of frame we used to make a large yarn ball wreath at our old store, Studio Knit. The balls of yarn were all attached with floral wire, threaded through a clump of yarn at the back of the ball and then twisted around the wire bars. Floral tape is also an option for this kind of frame, although probably not for balls of yarn.

As we wrote yesterday, the first step in making a wreath is choosing a ring, i.e. something to put all the good stuff on to make your wreath pretty.

...As for decorations, you can certainly add any embellishment you want to your ring, but at the store, we have chosen to focus on naturals, i.e. flowers, woods, leaves, fruits, pods, etc.

...The ring can be made of any material you choose (as long as it’s sturdy enough for your decorations) including: cardboard, wire (chicken wire, coat hangers...), styrofoam, straw, grapevine, twigs, and so on.

...After the ring and the “various materials”, the final choice to be made in making a wreath is in deciding how to attach the decorations to the ring.

...Now that you have a basic sense of the wreath-making technique, in our next post we’ll show you the materials (rings, decorations and fasteners) we supply for this craft at Once Around.
