This program is an opportunity to deepen your art practice, develop observational skills, work with a model, the landscape, still life objects, and gain classical drawing and painting skills. I provide initial guidance as well as working individually with those who would like instruction during the poses. Painting will be introduced as the class feels ready to move from drawing into painting.
My intention is to offer tools that will help develop both the inner and the technical skills that lay a foundation for an artist. My job is to help you “draw out” your creativity. I have studied with very skillful teachers and have a lot of knowledge to impart, however, I feel helping to open up one’s vision through objective observation and to help organize this vision so that one can put their ideas onto paper is most vital. These observational skills transfer into many areas including the sciences.
Note to Students and Parents:
There is a progression in my classes. To participate in all three semesters would be ideal, or to continue each year when one is able. The artists will work on exercises and processing, possibly looking as if they are floundering. Then, like growth spurts, there will be a huge leap in their artistic development and ability to see, this will translate into their work. Years later they will still be unlocking this amazing tradition that has been handed down to me from artists that stretch back to the knowledge of the Greeks and Renaissance.
Supplies:
Once Around offers a 20% discount on supplies to all students actively taking these classes. Please bring a 20" x 26" drawing board if you are able. I can bring boards for students riding bikes from school, etc. I will have a few materials on hand. I encourage that you bring any drawing materials you feel comfortable with and would enjoy using at home. I will offer a drawing assignments for you to work on at home. I am happy to answer any questions.
